SUMMER CAMP STAFF

Caring, Reliable staff needed for our overnight Summer Camp program caring for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities. Provide ADL & camp activity participation.

Position begins June 17, 2019 for 12 weeks in our Cape May, NJ location. Staff will be required to stay overnight in our shore house from Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Staff will meet on Sundays at our main office in Bechtelsville and then drive agency vehicles to the Cape May area until Friday.

 

Helping Hands summer camp/shore vacation program provides an age appropriate social/recreational experience for intellectually and physically disabled adults over the age of 18. Our traditional "Camp Program" is offered in weekly sessions and provides an opportunity to participate in swimming, arts and crafts, sports, music, hiking, and other camp activities. Our "Vacation Program" at the New Jersey shore is offered in weekly sessions. We have designed a beach vacation with activities that may include trips to Atlantic City, Wildwood, beaches, the boardwalks and other activities requested by the participants.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Work as a camp counselor safely in a variety of camp activities with 12 adult campers with ID
  • Serve as the counselor to the campers, showing enthusiasm in deed and spirit.
  • Plan, lead and participate in a variety of camp activities such as games, songs, sports, skits and special events.
  • Follow lesson plans provided by the Camp Coordinators
  • Supervise campers during swim activities; this includes swimming with them, keeping them safe and engaged in the swim/pool activities.
  • Responsible for the safety and well being of each camper in his/her group.
  • Supervise the campers carefully to ensure the safety of the campers and property.
  • Maintain a physical environment (indoors and outdoors) which is safe, attractive, and clean.
  • Actively engage and interact with the campers during meal times
  • Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers and staff

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience working with adults w ID preferred
  • Preferred certifications in CPR, First Aid but not mandatory
  • The ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Genuine passion for and desire to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities

Our programs are designed around each individual's needs and implemented in the least restrictive environment for the safety and well being of the individual.

 

We are hiring compassionate, reliable staff to care for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in our community homes located in the Pottstown area and in Gilbertsville.

Hourly pay rate starts at $13.00. PT


Incentives

Paid training, signing bonus (after 6 months & 12 months of employment)


Responsibilities and Duties

Direct Support and Personal Care for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities, includes preparing meals, personal hygiene, transportation to appointments, household chores and other responsibilities.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Valid PA driver's license

High school diploma or GED

Pass a pre-employment physical

Pass a criminal record background check and DMV record check

Pass a pre-employment drug screening test
